My name is Abel H. Villarreal and I was assigned to Resources as a Program Agreements Specialist. For nearly two years I have had the privilege of working all Government Accounting Office (GAO) inquiries, initiating the Command Manager's Internal Control Program and have worked a variety of Resource actions in support of the U.S. Africa Command mission. It has been my utmost privilege to work with many great Teammates throughout the Command.
While I was not able to visit the continent during my tenure, I do believe our collective efforts are making a positive difference on the continent and will have a long and lasting impact on many African families and communities. In particular, U.S. Africa Command's strategy of embedding interagency personnel is not only making a difference, but over the long haul should help improve areas such as humanitarian and assistance, military to military engagements, African Partnership Station and others. I feel fortunate to have played a small role in embedding interagency personnel within the command. While there are many more lessons to learn, I feel grateful to take away a few unique and valuable experiences.
It was not that not long ago, Feb 2009, that my family and I joined the Resources Directorate family after having served in the military for 28 plus years and about 13 months as a contractor deployed to Kuwait. The experience has not only been fulfilling, but it has been filled with many opportunities and challenges. I have nothing but respect for all the dedicated military, DOD civilians, interagency and contractors serving in U.S. Africa Command. My family and I will always be grateful for this opportunity and only hope we have successfully fulfilled our small part.
The time has come for my beautiful bride and I to head to yet another wonderful and challenging opportunity in Saudi Arabia where I will work Foreign Military Sales with the Office of Program Management - Saudi Arabia National Guard (OPM-SANG). Before departing we would like to thank all who have supported and touched us during our tenure at U.S. Africa Command. Until we cross paths again, God speed and farewell- Masalama! Keep doing what you do and make a difference. Hooah!
