Tanzania National Government Pandemic Disaster Response Tabletop Exercise
Tanzanian disaster management subject matter experts, military leaders and U.S. planners from the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM) and U.S. Africa Command met in Dar es Salem, Tanzania on 23 and 24 January, 2012 to review and discuss final edits to draft plans for pandemic preparedness.
This concludes an ongoing effort which took place over the past several months. The impetus for this work was the Tanzania National Government Pandemic Disaster Response Tabletop Exercise which was conducted in March 2011 in Arusha, Tanzania.
That exercise guided the planning efforts which led to the drafting of a National Pandemic Response Plan for the Government of Tanzania as well as a military contingency plan for the Tanzanian Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) intended to support that plan. The draft plans will now be staffed for approval by the Tanzanian government and the TPDF respectively.
Subsequent Pandemic Preparedness coordination meetings took place between the government of Tanzania, other International Organization stakeholders in Tanzania and the USAID-funded Prepare Project between 13-15 February.
