Rockville, MD, Sep 28, 2011 -

This week the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the winners of its year-long Green Power Community Challenge, ranking Rockville, Maryland 10th in the nation.  The competition challenges cities to use more renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydropower. Rockville purchased 67,188,768 kilowatt hours from renewable resources, with green power making up more than 3 percent of the community’s total usage.

“Rockville and the State of Maryland’s commitment to renewable energy serves as a model for the nation,” said Congressman Van Hollen. “Each community in our country can contribute to the United States’ effort to increase the use of green power.  Working together, we can put people back to work and promote environmental sustainability now and for generations to come.”
