As the Chief, Quality of Life, conducted a staff assistance visit to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) and Camp Lemonier on 8-11 Jun 09. The purpose of the visit was to assess the quality of live at Camp Lemonier, identify any issues/challenges and gaps in service/programs that are available to service members, civilians and contractors assigned to U.S. Africa Command.
The overall quality of life at Camp Lemonier is very good. The camp staff is doing an outstanding job in the areas of morale, welfare and recreation and education. The staffs are dedicated to improving the quality of life of the personnel living on the camp and those serving throughout the Horn of Africa.
Today, more than ever, internet capability and capacity are an integral part of how we view our quality of life. There are challenges related to internet capability that the camp leadership is addressing as it assess different options for expanding bandwidth capability. Service members and civilians are assisting the community they live in by volunteering to work with the Djiboutian students learning English in nearby schools, assisting in a local baby orphanage, and in the maintenance and upkeep of a cheetah refugee camp.
