Reactor Physics

Reactor and nuclear physics is a key area of research at INL. Much of the research done in reactor physics can be separated into one of three categories: computational and experimental reactor and radiation physics, radiation measurement instrumentation development and applications, or nuclear physics and spectroscopy.

Computational reactor physics provides support for advanced test reactor experiments, advanced reactor modeling, methods of development, benchmarking, nuclear criticality safety and medical applications of nuclear science. Radiation measurement instrumentation development focuses on traditional and innovative methods of specialized radiation measurements for INL’s nuclear, environmental and national security applications.

Nuclear physics and spectroscopy focuses on specialized nuclear structure studies, nuclear data measurements and gamma spectroscopy.
