August 2012 Blast Recap

Below are some highlights from the August 2012 News Blast.

Biomass Program's Valerie Reed Named One of "35 people worth knowing in the BioBased movement and industry"
Biofuels Digest named the Biomass Program's Acting Director Valerie Reed as one of the "35 people worth knowing in the BioBased movement and industry." In the article, Dr. Reed was recognized for her knowledge of policy, as well as the Biomass Program's opportunities. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Senior Policy Advisory Sarah Bittleman and the U.S. Navy's Deputy Director for Renewable Energy Chris Tindal were also mentioned as two great federal sources for people to turn to in order to learn more about government initiatives in the industry.

August Webinar Wrap-Up
The webinar, "Assessing Impacts of Biofuel Production on Regional Water Resource Use and Availability," was held on August 15, 2012. This session—intended for local, county, and state water managers; working farmers and biofuel leaders; students and professionals in the fuel and energy sectors; and policymakers—provided an overview of requirements for water resources, as well as a discussion of the environmental impacts attributable to wastewater from biofuels production. Dr. May Wu from Argonne National Laboratory presented case studies to highlight the unique aspects of the water footprint of biofuels, thereby demonstrating the complex nature of the energy-water relationship. For questions concerning the webinar topic, please email Dr. Wu. Slides from the presentation are posted on the Webinar Web page.
