Recent efforts have focused on making virtually all public information from the USPTO accessible on the Internet. Data sets, estimated to be nearly 2 petabytes and maintained by the USPTO include: Application documents (Specification, Claims, Amendments, etc.); MetaData associated with the Applications (Application Data/Transaction History/Patent Term Adjustment/Patent Term Extension Foreign Priority/Attorney Address/Continuity Data/Published Documents); Assignment Data, including history of assignments; Fee Data Associated with the Patent Application/Patent; Application Meta Data (document or paper type/ date of the paper/ page size).

The USPTO is considering the development of an outsourcing model for internal and external e-Learning, and is interested in working with vendors and service providers to host and deliver Intellectual Property (IP) and other content to external (public) personnel and internal (USPTO) employees at no cost to the USPTO.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will be issuing several Requests for Proposals (RFP) for competitive procurements in support of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the near future.
The synopsis available below is for information only and provides an outline of upcoming and potential future requirements of the USPTO. The USPTO needs a portfolio of contracts that can provide the flexibility to fulfill the majority of its Information Technology (IT) services and needs.
All of the RFPs in the synopsis will encompass the USPTO Chief Information Office Systems Development Life Cycle methodology and include common terms, conditions and provisions such as Certification and Accreditation and Earned Value Management.
