A recent project in historic Silver City, NM, where sidewalks were almost 30 inches
above the street in some locations, demonstrates this approach. Corner radiuses are
constructed with stairs, some having as many as 6 risers. Sidewalk ramps, fitted with
handrails, begin almost at midblock and lead to level landings protected by the projection
of the stairs at street level.
