The U.S. Department of State, in partnership with the United Nations Association of the U.S.A., is pleased to announce the selection of the first-ever U.S. Youth Observer to the UN General Assembly. The Observer, Ms. Brooke Loughrin, was chosen as a finalist from a pool of over 700 young people who submitted their essays and applications in response to a nationwide appeal by UNA-U.S.A. Ms. Loughrin is currently a student at Boston College studying political science, and hails from the Seattle area.
The Youth Observer position is a part of the U.S. effort to increase youth interest and participation in international relations. As the Observer, Ms. Loughrin will attend events surrounding the UN General Assembly in New York, interact with youth representatives from other nations, and participate in other public activities. Subsequent to her time in New York, Ms. Loughrin will travel in the United States to share her impressions with UNA-USA Chapters, and will engage with young Americans via social media.
