About this Topic |
The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) collects information on the disability status of crime victims. The survey measures disability status by whether the crime victim had a sensory, physical, mental, or emotional condition lasting 6 months or longer that made it difficult for the person to perform daily living activities. The six disability types measured are hearing, vision, cognitive, ambulatory, self-care, and independent living. The Crime Victims with Disabilities Awareness Act (P.L. 105-301) mandated that the NCVS include statistics on crime against persons with disabilities and the characteristics of these victims.
