December 10, 2012 - December 13, 2012 Preventing Electoral Violence in Africa: Tools for Policymakers Stemming electoral violence in transition and fragile environments requires understanding the broader landscape of the conflict and how that conflict is managed. This course will examine specific cases from important 2011-2012 elections to analyze how electoral violence was prevented or mitigated through effective strategic planning and policymaking.

October 9, 2012 - October 12, 2012 Social Reconstruction and Human Security Explore successful humanitarian assistance and longer-term needs for social well-being and development in fragile states. Analyze the links between social well-being—particularly health, education, environmental protection, and refugee needs—and security, governance, rule of law, and economic development.
