U.S. Department of Education Senior Official to Visit Mid-South Community College to Discuss College Affordability and Completion

David Bergeron, acting assistant secretary for the Office of Postsecondary Education, will give remarks on Friday, Aug. 24, at the dedication of the Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center on Mid-South Community College’s North Campus in West Memphis, Ark. Bergeron will discuss the important role that community colleges play in workforce development and the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts to increase college affordability and completion. He will highlight the Department’s efforts to improve federal student aid programs while expanding the federal Pell Grant Program that now provides support to 9.6 million students annually, including nearly two-thirds of the students attending Mid-South Community College. In addition, Bergeron will discuss the importance of increasing college graduation rates as part of the Administration’s efforts to meet the President’s national goal of once again leading the world in college completion by 2020.
