Statement By Deputy Press Secretary Matt Chandler On DHS' Efforts To Enhance Driver's License Security

"As expected, a large majority of states and territories—46 of 56—have informed DHS that they will not be able to meet the Dec. 31 REAL ID material compliance deadline. As the National Governors Association has said, the states have made tremendous progress in driver’s license security but simply cannot fulfill the requirements of REAL ID. That’s why Secretary Napolitano has supported the efforts of Governors and Congress to enact PASS ID, which puts states on the path to implementing national standards for identification documents and will enhance security across the country.

David Bassett Named Federal Security Director at Bradley International Airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced David Bassett has been named federal security director (FSD) for Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. Bassett comes to Bradley from TSA headquarters in Arlington, Va. where he served as director for the South East area and led a team of twenty-one deputy area directors and FSDs. He has been with the TSA since September 2002.

TSA and Continental Airlines Expand Paperless Boarding Pass Program at SJU

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Continental Airlines announced today the expansion of the Paperless Boarding Pass pilot program at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU). The program will allow passengers to receive boarding passes electronically on their cell phones or PDAs, which will then be scanned by Transportation Security Officers at the checkpoint and eliminate the need for a paper boarding pass.

TSA and the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority to Test Explosives Detection Technology

FALMOUTH, Mass. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in partnership with the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority, will begin testing advanced explosives detection technology today as part of TSA's Security Enhancement and Capabilities Augmentation Program (SEACAP). During the three-week pilot program, TSA will conduct explosives screening on passenger vehicles boarding the Martha's Vineyard ferry at the Woods Hole Terminal in Falmouth. The purpose of the project is to test the performance of new technologies to detect explosives while maintaining efficient operations for high-volume ferries.

TSA Names Federal Security Director for JFK International Airport

NEW YORK – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the selection of Michael A. Scott as Federal Security Director (FSD) for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). As FSD, he will oversee all TSA operations at the airport.
