with Brazil
Background
Brazil is the 10th largest energy
consumer in the world and the third largest in the Western Hemisphere,
behind the United States and Canada. Brazil has recently made great
strides in increasing its total energy production through deepwater
exploration. Increasing domestic oil production has been a long-term
goal of the Brazilian government.
As a member state of the International
Regulators Forum, the
Bureau of Ocean Energy
Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) interaction with Brazil has been primarily in
offshore regulatory and safety issues. The Bureau’ primary counterpart and
focus for cooperative activities in Brazil is the ANP (National
Petroleum Agency) within the Brazilian Ministry of Energy.
Past Activities
On October 31st the Bureau participated by
invitation to an event hosted by The American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil.
Bureau representatives met with the delegation to discuss the Bureau's oil and
gas regulatory program, environmental protection, and safety. The
Brazilian delegation totaled about 30, representing oil and gas
operating companies, manufacturers, and government agencies. Attached
