U.S. Department of Education Senior Official to Highlight Success in Postsecondary Education Programs During Commencement Address at Washington Hospital Center’s Medical Imaging Schools 2012 Radiology Class

Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will discuss the skills gap and college access for a diverse population during his commencement address to the 2012 Class of the Washington Hospital Center's Medical Imaging School in Washington, D.C. at 7 p.m. ET Wed., June 27. During his remarks, Shelton will highlight the Obama Administration’s efforts to develop a strong American workforce for today and tomorrow through college access and affordability.

The school provides an academic and clinical education program in radiologic technology and prepares students to become skilled radiologic technologists. The goals of the two-year program are to develop competent, entry-level radiographers able to function within the healthcare community. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to work at MedStar facilities. MedStar Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that operates more than 40 entities in the Washington, D.C.-Maryland area. It is the area’s largest health system and one of its largest employers, with more than 27, 000 associates and 5,600 affiliated physicians.
