Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier, who heads the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, will tour Hopewell High School's Academy of Engineering Thursday in Huntersville, N.C. Dann-Messier is visiting successful partnerships among school districts, community colleges and businesses.

Hopewell High's Academy of Engineering is modeled after the National Academy Foundation's career academy program. The program supports national standards for curriculum, business partnerships, student internships and pursuit of postsecondary education. The academy, one of five in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, has been recognized for its partnership with local engineering firms to create internships and real-work experiences for students.

As assistant secretary, Dann-Messier leads the Education Department's efforts in adult, career and technical education, as well as community colleges and correctional education.
