UNITED WE WORK IS THE THEME FOR COMMUNITY DAY AT THE U.S. PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, August 5, 1999, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will hold its fourth annual community day recognizing the many cultures represented in its workforce. The event's main stage will showcase international music, cultural presentations, games, dancers, and a fashion show featuring 100 years of fashion. Community Day will also feature over 120 exhibitors and vendors, as well as foods and dress representative of the human mosaic mirrored in PTO’s workforce. When compared to the federal government workforce average, Patent and Trademark Office employees have a much higher education level, are far more diverse, and are younger.

Q. Todd Dickinson, acting Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks, notes that "Community Day provides PTO’s nearly 6,000 employees, who have roots from around the world, an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity that is an integral part of the agency." Dickinson will be the keynote speaker at Community Day.
