Jian Wang

Tenured Scientist

My research focuses on the processes that control the properties and evolutions of atmospheric aerosols and the interactions between aerosols and clouds.  The main topics are: (1) the effects of aerosols on cloud properties including the cloud droplet number concentration, size spectrum, and cloud albedo; (2) Boundary layer nucleation and new particle formation; (3) the evolution of aerosol microphysics, chemical composition, and droplet activation efficiency as the aerosol is transported downwind of major sources; (4) the development of advanced instruments for measuring aerosol size distribution, hygroscopicity, and cloud condensation nuclei concentration, with the focus on aircraft-based deployments.
