Turner Helps Local Resident Pursue The American Dream

Expedites Overdue Processing For New Citizen Seeking Higher Education

New York – Congressman Bob Turner (NY-09) has helped Brooklyn resident Ekaterina Balash pursue her American dream. Turner and his staff helped expedite Mrs. Balash’s application for Legal Permanent Residency that was pending beyond the expected processing time so that she can attend Brooklyn College and pursue a career as a Physician Assistant.

“Ms. Balash is working to achieve her American dream. She did everything by the books in coming to this country. She then hit the books and was accepted into one of the best post secondary schools in America. However, due to a glitch in processing her Legal Permanent Residency application, she was unable to obtain the proper paperwork she needed to pursue her higher education. I am pleased to say that my office has helped resolve the issue and she will be beginning school this fall,” Turner said.

Mrs. Balash applied for her residency and waited eight months with no answer. During that time, she was admitted to Brooklyn College. However, in order to move forward she needed an answer on her residency status; that’s when the Balash’s contacted Congressman Turner’s office.

“We did everything by the law regarding my legal status here in the United States. We did everything by the book. But, at some point, for some reason, the process got stopped somewhere along the way,” The Balash’s said. “We came to the Congressman’s office for help because we knew everything was properly prepared and we needed an answer.”

Congressman Turner’s office managed to track down Mrs. Balash’s application and expedite its processing. The application was subsequently approved and she received her legal permanent residency card making her eligible for the needed assistance.

“When we came to the Congressman’s office, the person who worked with us was very quick. He found the spot where the problem was, made the right call, and resolved the problem,” the Balash’s said. “We really appreciate the quick response to our problem. Everybody comes here to achieve the American dream. With the right education, it’s a very good beginning for each person to start.”

Congressman Bob Turner represents New York’s 9th Congressional district and serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and House Committee on Homeland Security.
