290A - Electronic Warfare Technician

Duties:

The Electronic Warfare (EW) Technician, in support of the EW Officer:

  • Plans, organizes, implements, monitors, and evaluates operations and the threat environment
  • Assists the EWO in preparing the Electronic Warfare appendix to the operations order
  • Provides advice on technical and tactical employment of Joint EW systems, and integrates EW into the targeting process
  • Monitors the development of the enemy EW order of battle (OB) and the processing of target information and intelligence generated by the OB section
  • Assists in production and application of target selection standards
  • Maintains and assists in developing the Electronic Warfare Staff Estimate
  • Assists and coordinates with the S-2/G2 on Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) as it pertains to electronic warfare
  • Develops EW input to Targeting Products and participates in targeting meetings
  • Assists the EWO in the analysis of the relevant situation and predicts needs
  • Is involved in the development and execution of EW policies and procedures for supported organizations
  • Coordinates external EW support mission requirements and integrates EW operations into MDMP
  • Performs other officer level duties essential to the mission of the assigned unit

Prerequisites:

In addition to the standard prerequisites to become an Army Warrant Officer, the following are MOS 290A prerequisites:

  1. Hold the rank of SGT (E5) or above (not waiverable)
  2. Be an Advance Leadership Course (ALC) graduate
  3. Hold MOS 29E or be one of the following:
    • A graduate of an Army Operational Electronic Warfare Course (1J), Fort Sill, OK
    • A graduate of a CREW Master Gunner Course/Tactical Electronic Warfare Course (1K) Fort Huachuca, AZ
    • A graduate of a 29E pilot or validated qualification course, Fort Sill, OK
    • Graduates of a sister service’s EW training course will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  4. Experienced in combat with primary duty as an EW NCO
  5. Have more than one year of documented Electronic Warfare experience on NCOERs (Service Component Equivalent Efficiency Reports for sister service applicants) or other official documentation.
  6. Submit copies of all NCOERs for up to the past 10 years. Must have one year in a supervisory position documented on NCOER(s). NCOERs must reflect outstanding duty performance.
  7. Have minimum scores of 110 for Electronic (EL) and Technical (ST).
  8. Have a total of six (6) hours of math or science, or a combination of both from an accredited college or university. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit in those areas is acceptable.
  9. Have a SECRET clearance prior to attendance at the 290A qualification course. Note: All EW Warrant Officer (290A) operational assignments require a final Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  10. Have a written endorsement letter of recommendation (LOR) from a CW3-CW5.
  11. Have a written endorsement LOR from a Battalion or above commander.

NOTE: Any prerequisites not met will require a request for prerequisite waiver in writing to the EW Proponent.
