Seoul runs wild in rout of Osan

OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea – Five days after being throttled by Yokota on its home field, Seoul American turned in one of the most explosive rushing performances of the Pacific high school football season.

Ronald Dogan rushed 16 times for 350 yards, fifth-most in Pacific history, and scored five touchdowns, and Alex McDonald added 224 yards on 14 attempts as the Falcons rolled 47-18 on Thursday at Osan American. Seoul American improved to 2-3, both wins against Korea Division II opponents.

“Especially after a tough loss at home to Yokota, it was nice to rebound like that,” Falcons coach Jim Davis said. “With a short week, you never know how you’re going to respond, and we responded well.”

Davis praised the play of the offensive line for clearing paths for Dogan and McDonald. Brandon Roseborough also rushed 2 yards for a score and Dexter Clark ran 4 yards for a touchdown.

“The way the line was blocking and the way (Dogan) ran the ball, we knew it would be a long night for Osan,” Davis said.

“He’s a great player, a very strong runner,” Cougars coach Duke Allen said of Dogan, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound sophomore from Houston.

The Falcons’ victory spoiled another solid performance from Cougars sophomore fullback T.J. Busano. He ran 12 times for 135 yards, including touchdowns of 60, 35 and 15 yards.

“T.J. ran hard,” Allen said. “He’s a great kid, he works hard and he’s hard to bring down.”

Dogan’s yardage total was the most for a Seoul American back in a single game since David Smalls set the Pacific record of 421, on 29 carries, in a 58-32 Falcons win over Osan on Oct. 4, 2006. Five of the top 10 single-game performances are by Korea running backs.

The Falcons next visit Nile C. Kinnick in a Division I battle at 4 p.m. Oct. 6. Davis used to play for the Red Devils, graduating in 1989, and was an assistant coach for Kinnick in the early 2000s. Osan (0-4) hosts Kubasaki at 6 p.m. Oct. 6.
