ROA Talks Veteran Status, Reserve Pay with Rep. Farr 

ROA staffers recently sat down with Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Topics of the discussion included the issues of reserve employment and veteran status. ROA executive director, Maj. Gen. Andrew Davis, USMC (Ret.) emphasized a need for A DD-214-R to be provided to Reservists as they left the Selected Reserve, much the same way Active Duty members get an end of tour DD-214 to outline their service history. The conversation also addressed the 11th Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation, with ROA voicing concerns over the study’s recommendation to cut Reserve pay.

TSA Screeners Finally Have Enforceable USERRA Rights

In late August, President Obama signed H.R. 3670 into Public Law 112-171. The new law closes a loophole to USERRA that had been allowed to persist since the establishment of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in 2001; an issue that ROA and the Service Members Law Center had been working to correct for over five years.
