1/25/2011 - DENVER (AFNS) -- More than 500 judge advocates and paralegals from throughout the Air Reserve component gathered here for two days of training at the annual ARC Survey of the Law Jan. 21 to 22.

The legal professionals from the Air National Guard, the traditional Reserve and the individual mobilization augmentee program received up-to-date information on recent developments in various areas of the law.

Participants were required to choose three of eight different mini-courses that provided updates, specialized resources and hands-on training in the following areas: the commander and the law, the legal assistance client and the law, Article 32 investigating officer practice and procedures, military justice, deployments and the law, law office management, legal information technology, and emergency management.

The mini-courses were taught using various methods, including lectures, discussion forums and practical exercises.

Reserve judge advocates and paralegals are required to attend the survey of the law bi-annually as a means of refresher training. Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., the Air Force Reserve Command commander was among the guest speakers this year.

General Stenner briefed the legal professionals in attendance on the AFRC mission, focusing on AFR 2012, a series of projects designed to make the process of deploying easier for reservists and their families, and establish a "one-stop shopping center" called the Force Generation Center for combatant commanders to request and receive Air Force Reserve support.
