Big first half propels Bamberg past Brussels

STEEREBEEK, Belgium — The Bamberg Barons opened their second season of nine-man football by scoring on their first two possessions and breaking out to a 27-7 halftime lead Saturday in a Division-III game.

The Barons made it hold up in a 40-13 victory.

Brussels, which got 123 rushing yards from Kristian Javier, scored on its first possession of the second half and on a 32-yard pass from Hayden Pfefferkorn to Daniel Helbling with 12 seconds left in the game.

Bamberg, the 2011 D-III runner-up, travels to Sigonella on Saturday; Brussels will take an 0-2 record into its next game, Friday at Baumholder.
