Finding Evidence-Based Results in PubMed

To explore PubMed features that facilitates and informs evidence-based research, by identifying the best information available in clinical research areas. This approach will use study characteristics (i.e.: research design and methods) and reviews (including systematic reviews) of the current literature. In achieving this, it will focus on essential vocabulary used to describe study characteristics, clinical queries (clinical study categories), systematic reviews and comparative effectiveness Research (CER) searches. This one-hour class is designed for users having a specific advanced research or health policy interest.

Beyond the SE/A is a monthly webinar from the Southeastern/Atlantic Regional Medical Library of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM SE/A). Speakers cover different topics of interest to health science librarians, health care practitioners, librarians, and other health focused groups in the region. Topics include new and updated National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, RML Awardee presentations on their research and outreach programs, Disaster Resources, Electronic Health Records, and many others related to health science and health care. All sessions are online webinars using Adobe Connect, which allows for live phone conversation and online chat. Beyond the SE/A sessions are held on the Third Wednesday of every month at Noon (ET) and last an hour. Sessions are recorded, closed captioned, and made available for later viewing.

Data Dashboards: Monitoring Progress toward Program Outcomes

Data dashboards are becoming an important program planning and management tool in for-profit and nonprofit organizations. They provide visual displays of project indicator data that show “at-a-glance” progress on projects and initiatives. This webinar will introduce participants to data dashboards, with a focus on making data dashboards useful in decision-making. They also will see how to create a simple dashboard using Google Docs that can be displayed in a blog or at a website. By the end of the webinar, participants should know how to assess a data dashboard for usefulness in decision making and where to get free tools to develop their own dashboards. The session is primarily lecture with some audience participation built into the session. This is a one-hour synchronous online training session.

Measuring Your Impact: Using Evaluation for Library Advocacy

Library users and stakeholders will recognize and value the importance of their library's services and of the librarian to the organization. That is the ultimate goal of this class. The outcome for the class is that librarians will be able to show the value of their library's services. Participants will become familiar with an evaluation process and will use and take away methods and tools for assessment, evaluation planning, creating logic models, data collection and reporting. The workshop will feature a case-based scenario that moves participants through the steps of an evaluation process. There will also be student discussion and exercises in addition to lecture.

Nursing on the Net (NON) - Free Resources

The focus is on free, credible and current (non-NLM) internet resources of interest to nurses, nursing students, nurse faculty of all specialties and to librarians who serve these constituencies. It is a global tour of nursing resources organized by topic or placeholder area. Instruction discusses and focuses on the differences, similarities and nuances of resources within each topic area.
