MC4 Powers up Support on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula

December 29, 2010 posted by Capt. Patrick Twomey

In November, a team from MC4 traveled to North Camp to train the providers and technical staff supporting the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission on Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. During MC4's visit, their support went much further than just training individuals how to use applications.

MC4 Training Egypt

MC4 personnel trained approximately 25 people. U.S., Fijian and Uruguayan providers learned to use AHLTA-T, DCAM, TMDS and Business Objects. Technical personnel learned to support the equipment by backing up data and troubleshooting systems issues.

The team did a great job throughout the training classes and they taught me new tricks to use AHLTA-T. Before this mission, I conducted my residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. I'm very proficient with AHLTA. While I thought I knew everything about the program, the MC4 team taught me new tricks to improve my patient note-taking.

I learned how to use templates to document similar conditions. They also showed me where to find the repository of templates within the system. This helped me to reduce the time I spend entering notes.

The MC4 staff went above and beyond the call of duty after we experienced a wave of power outages and surges that knocked out the server on the eve of the team's departure. They showed incredible commitment and dedication to delay their return home and work throughout the night to rebuild the server and restore the equipment. The team's devotion to the mission allowed us to be fully operational when the medical personnel returned to the clinic in the morning.

Sincere thanks go out to MC4's Prashant Gongidi, Craig McDowell and Terry Spidell for the support given throughout their stay. I am very grateful for your support to those of us in the Sinai.

Capt. Patrick Twomey, North Camp Clinic Officer in Charge, Multinational Force and Observers, Egypt
