A listener asked, “How is it that I lose weight and then I gain more back . . . ? How can I stop this biggest loser biggest gainer cycle?” Great questions!
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
You may be able to avoid “weight cycling” by improving your eating and physical activity habits. Studies show that many people who weight cycle do not get regular physical activity, so be sure to include it in your routine. Also, try to eat more high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables, and cut down on high-fat foods.
You shouldn’t think of weight cycling as a failure. A good attitude will help you stay focused. Talking to a health professional may help you understand the reasons for these ups and downs.
