Sep 13, 2012 Issues: Defense

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement regarding the death of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith, and two other Americans in Libya this morning. These violent attacks on our American diplomats are heartbreaking and unacceptable, and I extend my deepest condolences to the families of these diplomats, who have loyally served our nation and have represented America abroad with excellence.

“This act of terror is particularly heartbreaking given the United States' commitment and hard work to help liberate the people of Libya. These attacks reverse the progress Libya has made toward a more open society.

"All around the world, our Foreign Service officers risk their lives, in very dangerous places to defend our country’s ideals, and we are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices they make to protect our freedoms each and every day."
