PEACHTREE CITY, GA — August 6, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Senior Civilian and Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mrs. Talisha Thompson has been named principal of Mudge Elementary School, at Fort Knox, KY., in the Kentucky District.

Mrs. Thompson most recently served as the assistant principal at Fort Knox High School (FKHS,) a position she had held since March 2010. She began her career in education immediately upon her college graduation by teaching seventh grade Language Arts, at East Millbrook Middle School in Raleigh, NC While there she started a mentoring program and served as a step coach and team leader. Mrs. Thompson began her career with DoDEA in 2002 when she taught seventh and eighth grade Language Arts and seventh, eighth and ninth grade AVID classes at Albritton Junior High School on Fort Bragg, NC She served as the AVID coordinator, was a school improvement committee member and was chairperson for the Community Outreach committee.

“Mrs. Thompson has proven her leadership skills as an assistant principal at Fort Knox High School,” said Dr. Frank Calvano, Kentucky District Superintendent. “Her interpersonal skills and willingness to be involved will benefit the students, faculty, staff and families of Mudge Elementary School.”

A native of Hope Mills, NC, Mrs. Thompson earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies Education, graduating Magna Cum Laude from North Carolina State University (NCSU). While a student she helped found the NCSU Association of African American Student Educators and Psychologists. She earned her Master’s of Arts degree in Education Administration and Supervision through the University of Phoenix.

She and her husband, Marcus, have a four-year-old daughter, MaKenzie.
