    As of 1 August 12, 116,245 ANSF are in literacy training.
    The program employs 3,200 Afghan teachers teaching 6,051 classes in all provinces, teaching to Functional Literacy Level 3 - The ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use printed and written materials associated and varying contexts.

  29. 8 September 2012 International Literacy Day.
    NTM-A is celebrating the International Literacy Day.
    Did you know that the highest Level 3 literacy success rate ever, was achieved in July 2012. In the past month 4,441 members of ANSF achieved Level 3 literacy compared to just 636 this time last year. Literacy training is 100% mandatory. Average, 9 of 10 recruits are illiterate and innumerate; the national literacy rate is about 28%.

  37. At Kabul Military Training Center took place a two day competition “Best in the Afghan National Army” . Each unit of ANA sent 2 representantives , NCO and Soldier to undergo a series of tests, trials of physical training tests, pushups, sit...
    -ups, two kilometer race, 10 kilometer march with full equipment, weapons knowledge, map reading, first aid and literacy skills. At the end of the competition 2 soldiers took home top honors, and were honored in a closing ceremony led by the ANA Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Achrum and Sgt. Maj. Roshan Safi.

Sgt Wali Mohammad of the 201st Corp scored the most points among the NonCommissioned Officers challenge while Ali from the 209th outperformed all of his competitors.

Each unit throughout the Afghan National Army sends two representatives -- one each from the NCO and soldier ranks—to undergo a series of tests.  These include endurance trials of PT tests, push ups, sit-ups,a 2 KM race, and a 10 km march with full equipment.

Additionally, each contestant is scored on weapons knowledge with the M-16, the 240, 249 and then marksmanship proficiency with M-16 on the range.  The soldiers are also judged based on their map reading, first aid and literacy skills.
