Interior Secretary Announces Nearly $27 Million for Wetlands Grants for Migratory Birds, $3 Million for Wildlife Refuge Acquisitions -- (Overview) - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today that the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission approved spending more than $3 million from the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to protect an estimated 1,600 acres of waterfowl habitat on 3 units of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Climate Change Implicated in Decline of Horseshoe Crabs -- (Interview) - The U.S. Geological Survey just announced a new study on climate change and horseshoe crabs. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service shorebird biologist Greg Breese from the Coastal Program discusses the relationship between shorebirds, horseshoe crabs, and climate change.

Boy Scout Jamboree - Thinking About Climate Change - (Video) -- Fish and wildlife movement patterns are largely determined by the availability of food and water. Climate change is altering rainfall patterns and temperature, and habitats are changing and shifting in response. Gary Stolz, Refuge Manager at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia, talks to Joe Donahoe about some ways natural resource agencies and the public can work together to help fish and wildlife adapt to climate change.

Nation's River Bass Tournament at National Harbor - (Video) -- Recently, the Service helped sponsor the Nation's River Bass Tournament at National Harbor. Local schoolchildren had the opportunity to ride in bass boats and learn fishing from volunteer professional fishing guides. Service employees instructed students fishing from the piers. In addition, students learned about a variety of environmental issues. Wes McNealy, Director of Corporate Environment Services at Potomac Energy and Power Company (PEPCO), gives a short interview on their progress on producing renewable energy and examples of local renewable projects in the Washington, D.C. area.
