Weekly Roundup

Posted by Dan Burton on October 17, 2008
In The Blog:
This week's Energy Jolt talked about a project underway in Indiana that would generate a total of 750 megawatts (MW) of wind energy at Fowler Ridge Wind Farm. This is a very exciting project and once operational, will be one of the largest wind power facilities in the world and will generate enough electricity to power more than 200,000 homes.

The Pork Platter was peppered with fruit flies. Specifically, $211,509 went to Paris, France for olive fruit fly research. This is the kind of spending that I will continue to fight against. When we talk about billions, a few hundred thousand might sound small, but it all adds up. Not one penny of taxpayer dollars should be misused or spent on frivilous things.

Here is other news that didn't make it into the blog but deserves mention:

1.) On Friday, October 3, the House passed H.R. 1424, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act & Tax Extenders and Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act, which authorized Treasury to spend up to $700 billion to purchase toxic mortgage-back securities from beleaguered financial institutions.

2.) Powerful symbols of domestic violence awaited visitors to the Hamilton County Government and Judicial Center in Noblesville October 9, 2008. The staff of Prevail placed 75 pairs of shoes at the entrance. Each empty pair represented one person who died last year in Indiana because of domestic violence. Thank you for reading our wrap for this week, and I encourage everyone to leave comments and check back next week.
