Franks Praises Designation of I-11 Connecting Phoenix/Las Vegas

Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) today released the following statement, after successfully advocating for an amendment securing Interstate designation for I-11, the stretch of interstate that will now ultimately connect Phoenix and Las Vegas -- the only two metropolitan areas in the nation with populations in excess of a million that are not connected by the interstate system:

According to Franks, "Having worked for several years now toward the construction of this much-needed stretch of interstate, I am pleased to see I-11 finally receive Interstate designation.

"The benefits of I-11 will not be limited to my district. Indeed, the route will serve as a vital artery for commerce that will allow Nevada and Arizona to remain the fastest growing states in the nation, thereby benefitting the economies of the entire Western region of the United States."

Congressman Franks is serving his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives and is a member of the Judiciary Committee, where he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and a member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Commercial and Administrative Law. He is also a member of the Armed Services Committee, where he serves on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee and the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.
