PBS Features USU Prof This Weekend

A documentary to air on PBS this weekend in the Washington, D.C., area will feature Uniformed University of the Health Sciences Department of Military and Emergency Medicine professor and Scientific Director of USU's Consortium for Health and Military Performance Patricia Deuster, Ph.D., MPH, along with several students and staff members and scenes from the university itself.

The documentary is called "The Science of Healing" and is scheduled to air Sun., March 7, at 9:00 a.m. on PBS, WHUT channel 32 in Washington, D.C.

The documentary takes a look at how sunlight, meditation, music and exercise can affect our health and healing -- and the science behind it. It centers around the fascinating personal experience of NIH scientist Esther Sternberg, Ph.D.

Deuster was interviewed for the documentary on the importance of regular exercise in health to protect against various stress-related diseases, including depression. Several scenes for the documentary were filmed in a number of USU locations, including a Building C lab, the Human Performance Laboratory, and outside on the trail and track behind the university. The outside scenes also feature several USU students and brigade enlisted staff members.

Those outside the Washington, D.C., metro area can use the PBS station finder to find out if and when the documentary will air in your area.
