Limited Full Text Available from ERIC

 Back to ERIC News

ERIC has just released a first wave of more than 20,500 downloadable PDFs online following a period of suspended downloading capability affecting all ERIC full-text materials. Access to the full-text collection was disabled due to privacy concerns identified in some ERIC documents. At the present time, materials available for download include all peer-reviewed full-text documents and journal articles.

Sources of newly restored documents (EDs) include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics
  • National Assessment Governing Board
  • National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
  • National Board for Education Sciences
  • National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance
  • National Center for Education Research
  • National Center for Education Statistics
  • National Center for Special Education Research
  • National Forum on Education Statistics
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Central
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Mid-Atlantic
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Midwest
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast & Islands
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Pacific
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast
  • Regional Educational Laboratory Southwest
  • Regional Educational Laboratory West
  • What Works Clearinghouse

Peer-reviewed journal articles (EJs) ERIC has permission to display online are also accessible.

While searching for full text on the ERIC website at eric.ed.gov, note that there are some temporary search and display limitations caused by the recent, unexpected suspension of PDF downloading. As soon as the majority of full text is restored to the site, all features will return to normal operation. Limitations include:

  • PDF links continue to display in ERIC records, even when full text is currently not available.
  • The ability to limit search results to only records with associated full text may not return reliable results.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we are working to isolate the affected documents to ensure that personally identifying information that authors may have inadvertently included is not displayed. Our goal is to return full text access to users as quickly as possible.

We will continue to keep you informed as additional full text is made available. Check the ERIC home page at eric.ed.gov for updates.
