Chaplain Overview
As an Air Guard chaplain, you will have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of those involved in the vitally important mission of protecting our country and communities. You will minister to persons of your own faith group, while also providing guidance and support to those of all denominations. A chaplain’s duties are many and varied. You will combine the roles of clergy and military officer, serving side by side with the men and women of the Air Guard. You will lead worship services and observances and provide pastoral care. This may include conducting weddings and funerals, participating in casualty notification and helping to provide resources to families when needed. Serving as an Air Guard chaplain, you’ll receive a wide range of benefits and rewards, including excellent pay, insurance coverage and military retirement benefits. In addition, you’ll enjoy the satisfaction and camaraderie of serving with a tight-knit family of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to country, community and faith.

One of the primary benefits of joining the Air Guard is that you can serve at a unit close to home, making you even more involved in the community you are already invested in. After the initial training, you’ll serve one weekend a month and two weeks a year at a unit near your home, work, or school.

Will I Be Deployed?
There is always the possibility of being tasked for deployment. The current posture for the Air Guard is to support the needs of the Air Force on an as-needed basis. It is almost impossible to predict or determine whether, when, or for how long you could be deployed. Every effort is made to use volunteers first, but in some cases you may be tasked to deploy when volunteers are not available to meet the mission’s requirements.
