2011-2012 Blue Ribbon Schools Program Timeline and Process:
November 7, 2011 | The Secretary sends a letter of invitation to the CSSOs, the BIE, the DoDEA, and the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) requesting the submission of information for nominated schools. |
December 16, 2011 | Public school nominations from CSSOs, BIE, and the DoDEA are due to the Department. |
January 4, 2012 | The Department invites schools nominated by CSSOs, OIE, and DoDEA to apply for recognition as National Blue Ribbon Schools. |
January 6, 2012 | Non-public school applications are due to CAPE. |
January 30, 2012 | CAPE selects its nominations. |
March 2, 2012 | Completed public and non-public school (from CAPE) applications are due to the Department. |
April, 2012 | Applications are reviewed for completeness and accuracy. |
May, 2012 | Applications are reviewed for compliance with eligibility criteria. |
August, 2012 | States certify that nominated public schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). |
September, 2012 | The Secretary announces the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools. |
November, 2012 | Two representatives from each school, the principal and a teacher, attend the recognition ceremony in Washington, DC. |
