District of Columbia Agencies DC agencies are frequent contributors to NCPC’s physical planning initiatives. District Department of the Environment (DDOE)DDOE was established in 2006 to improve the health of the District’s natural and indoor environments through policymaking, monitoring, and enforcement. The agency contributed advice on incorporating sustainability strategies into the Framework Plan and has provided substantial input into CapitalSpace. NCPC hopes to engage DDOE on forthcoming site-specific projects and precinct-level sustainability initiatives. District Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) DPR plans and maintains DC parks, community facilities, recreation centers, and swimming pools. It also coordinates a wide range of recreation programs. DPR has been an integral partner on CapitalSpace, the federal/District park planning initiative. District Department of Transportation (DDOT) DDOT manages and maintains the transportation infrastructure for the District of Columbia. This includes the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signals, and street lights. DDOT has been a key partner with NCPC on several initiatives, including the Freight Railroad Realignment Feasibility Study, the NY/FLA Avenue Charrette, and the North Capitol Street Cloverleaf Feasibility Study.
