Undergraduate Student Program
Get relevant experience while pursuing undergraduate degree
The Undergraduate Student (UGS) Program offers summer, part-time, and full-time appointments for undergraduate students.
The program is a year-round educational program that provides students with relevant research experience while they are pursuing an undergraduate degree. This educational program is designed to complement the students' education with work experience related to their chosen field of study. There are appointments in both the technical and professional fields.
Appointments are available for 90-day summer internships with the option to continue working part-time during the academic year. Maximum years in the program are six years for those pursuing a bachelor's degree and three years for those pursuing an associate's degree.
If you are a college graduate and have not been accepted into a graduate program, you may be eligible for the Post Baccalaureate category.
UGS - post baccalaureate category
The post baccalaureate category of the UGS program offers college graduates the opportunity to participate in the UGS program after graduation. This category applies to those students who have been awarded a bachelor's degree within the past three years but have not yet been accepted and enrolled in a graduate program. Post baccalaureate students may remain in this category for up to one year.
Students should use this one-year appointment to prepare for graduate school acceptance (i.e., GRE/GMAT exams, applications, etc.). A student may move into GRA status when documentation is provided indicating the student's intention to accept an offer of admission to a graduate program.
Documentation should be sent to Brenda Montoya, bmontoya@lanl.gov.
Students who have not been accepted into graduate school at the end of their appointment are no longer eligible to participate in the program.
