The 184th Intelligence Wing has a proud history and a wealth of tradition. The unit was activated to Federal service during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Viet Nam Conflict. The 184th Intelligence Wing has been honored with four USAF Outstanding Unit Awards for exceptionally meritorious service. In April 2008, the 184th Air Refueling Wing, flying the KC-135R tanker since 2002, was re-designated the 184th Intelligence Wing with a new mission, making it the first Intelligence Wing in the Air National Guard.

STATE BENEFITS
Education Benefits
Up to 100% tuition and fees based on funding. Must serve in Kansas Guard to their present term of enlistment equal to 50% of the duration of the benefit. Therefore, 1 semester worth of benefits incurs an additional 3 months of service commitment, 1 year incurs a 6-month commitment, and so on.
Group Insurance

Up to $50,000; $25,000 for spouse for 8.67/mo; $10,000 for each dependant for $6.66/mo Cancer coverage for members, $6/mo; $16/mo family coverage. Free $10,000 policy to all new members for 1 year.

Injury Death Benefits
State svc: Perm disabled, $120/mo plus 12 1/2% base pay. Surviving spouse, same plus $43-$77 per child/mo Children free tuition at state college. Up to $500 funeral expenses.
Medical Benefits
Guard member of State Active Duty in excess of 30 days may be reimbursed for premiums paid for civilian health care insurance. Repayment is limited to premiums paid under state employee group health insurance program.
Miscellaneous
Distinctive auto plates at regular rates. State employees: 12 days military leave/yr. Legal defense for line of duty. Not subject to tort claims action while on State Active Duty.

Education Benefits

Federal education benefits through the Montgomery G.I. Bill are available to most unit members provided they enlist for 6 years. These benefits are available to our members after completion of basic training and technical school. This program is a non-contributory benefit, meaning no payment or reduction in pay is required to receive these benefits. Federal benefits received: Montgomery GI Bill chapter 1606; up to $333 per month to offset college cost of attending college fulltime. Other Air National Guard Education Benefits for members enlisting for six years in a critical skills job may be available based on current incentive programs.  These benefits include: Montgomery GI Bill kicker up to $350 per month for full-time college enrollment, Student loan repayment program; up to $20,000 paid throughout enlistment. If you have prior military service and elected the active duty MGIB, you may still take advantage of this benefit up to a maximum of 48 months of combined benefits at the full-time rate. Basic pay (4 days for working 1 weekend). Non prior service enlisted members will start off between E-1 -E-3 (Airman Basic - Airman First Class). New officers that have never been in the military before start as an O-1 (2nd Lieutenant). Medical Professionals may come at a higher rank based on experience and education. Retirement Points

1 per drill period, 2 per day for a drill weekend. 1 per day for annual training or additional active Duty days performed throughout the year. More information can be found here.

For Activated or members  serving on Active Duty for 30 days or longer medical coverage is provided/available for member and family until completion of Active Duty orders. Coverage continues for  180 days  after being released from active status if activated in support of a contingency operation.

For Traditional Part Time members, TRICARE Reserve Select is a premium-based health plan available worldwide to Selected Reserve members of the Ready Reserve (and their families) who are not eligible for or enrolled in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program.

Combat Control
The mission of a combat controller is to deploy undetected into combat and hostile environments to establish assault zones or airfields, while simultaneously conducting air traffic control, fire support, command and control, direct action, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, humanitarian assistance and special reconnaissance in the joint arena. Combat Controllers are Battlefield Airmen assigned to special tactics squadrons. They are trained special operations forces and certified Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers.

The mission of the Tactical Air Control Party is to provide numerous critical functions on the modern battlefield including, advising ground forces on aircraft employment and capabilities, coordinating and controlling aerospace operations, and participating in battle planning.
