National Weatherization Training Portal

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Energy's Online Training Portal

The National Weatherization Training Portal (NWTP), currently under development, is a virtual campus offering online courses, manuals, videos and 3D interactive simulations of residential weatherization. The NWTP courses cover basic and advanced building science and weatherization through a flexible and adaptive learning platform that tracks each student's progress.

By advancing through the self-paced NWTP curriculum, students prepare for field training and industry certifications available through community and private colleges, state agency facilities, or one of the many Weatherization Assistance Program training centers throughout the United States.

Enrollment is easy, free and open to the public. Just minutes after clicking the Start Training link, students can begin learning about weatherization at their own pace. To make it easier for students and trainers, NWTP tracks each student's progress, creates a record of the student's training accomplishments, and is easily integrated into the curriculum of training facilities.

Independent instructors can also customize or add new coursework to meet the needs of individuals seeking a career in the fast-growing weatherization industry of current professionals – from energy auditors to field technicians. To learn more about how trainers can create and deploy their own courses or about collaborating with the U.S. Department of Energy through open source, please contact: NWTP.WEBMASTER@EE.DOE.GOV.
