Rear Admiral David M. Boone


Rear Adm. Boone reported as Director, Shore Readiness, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Fleet Readiness and Logistics) in May 2010.  He previously served as Commanding Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Va.

Boone graduated with honors from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, Calif., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1982. Commissioned an ensign in 1983, he attended the Civil Engineer Corps Officer Basic Course and then reported for duty with the Seabees (NMCB 40).  In July 1987, he attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated with a Master of Engineering degree in Coastal Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Construction Management. He then attended the Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Fla., where he completed training and was designated a navy diving officer in July 1989.

Boone has served in a variety of sea and shore assignments to include: Officer in Charge of a Seabee unit (CBU 402) in Pensacola, Fla.; Aide to Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC); FPO-1 (now Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center); Assistant Public Works officer at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan; Officer in Charge of Construction in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and on the Joint Task Force in Haiti where he served in Operation Sea Signal and Operation Uphold Democracy.

In July 1996, he reported as Commanding Officer, Seabee Underwater Construction Team - One (UCT-ONE).  He was then stationed at U.S. Joint Forces Command as the deputy engineer from July 1998 to April 2001.  He transferred to the White House Military Office as Director, Special Programs Office in May 2001.  Boone became the first Commanding Officer of NAVFAC Marianas in Guam in August 2003.  He then transferred to Naples, Italy, to serve as Executive Officer, NAVFAC Europe – Southwest Asia in July 2005.  In June 2006, he became the Chief of Staff to Commander, Navy Installations Command.

Boone is a Seabee Combat Warfare officer, a Navy Diving officer, a registered professional engineer in Florida and Virginia, as well as a member of the Acquisition Professional community.  He is a designated joint specialty officer, a graduate of the Naval War College, the Armed Forces Staff College, the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI, and DoD’s Executive Leadership Development Program.

His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (three awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and other service awards.  He has also received the Presidential Support Badge and the Nippon Gen Gokkai Award from the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan.
