AIR GUARD

When Air National Guard units are not mobilized or under federal control, they report to the governor of their respective state, territory (Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands) or the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard. Each of the 54 National Guard organizations is supervised by the adjutant general of the state or territory. Under state law, the Air National Guard provides protection of life, property and preserves peace, order and public safety. These missions are accomplished through emergency relief support during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and forest fires; search and rescue operations; support to civil defense authorities; maintenance of vital public services and counterdrug operations.

Bill, a military retirement plan, affordable health and life insurance – even access to free space-available air travel. more on state benefits STATE BENEFITS Close button Education Benefits The Louisiana Air National Guard 100% State Tuition Exemption Program (STEP), exempts/waives the cost of TUITION ONLY to ALL Louisiana Air Guard Airman attending any Louisiana PUBLIC universities and colleges of higher learning to include Community Colleges and vocational-technical schools. Applies to Full-Time and Part-time students. STEP can be used in conjunction with federal benefits such as Montgomery GI Bill and/or Kicker. STEP benefits are available for up to 15 semesters. Group Insurance State Active Duty: $15,000 coverage. $50,000 life for $17/mo; $10,000 spouse for $3.66/ mo; $5,000 child for $3.33/ mo Injury Death Benefits State Active Duty: Workers' Comp. These benefits are available to our members after completion of basic training and technical school. This program is a non-contributory benefit, meaning no payment or reduction in pay is required to receive these benefits. Federal benefits received: Montgomery GI Bill chapter 1606; up to $333 per month to offset college cost of attending college fulltime. Other Air National Guard Education Benefits for members enlisting for six years in a critical skills job may be available based on current incentive programs. These benefits include: Montgomery GI Bill kicker up to $350 per month for full-time college enrollment, Student loan repayment program; up to $20,000 paid throughout enlistment. If you have prior military service and elected the active duty MGIB, you may still take advantage of this benefit up to a maximum of 48 months of combined benefits at the full-time rate.
