Coast Guard Reserve Awards Panel

Overview The Office of Reserve Affairs (CG-131) solicits volunteers to serve on the Coast Guard Reserve Awards Panel. Panel membership is:
  • A unique leadership opportunity,
  • direct input on award recipients,
  • one-year commitment.
Membership Eligibility Panel membership is open to Coast Guard active duty, reserve, auxiliary and civilian personnel. The panel will consist of:
  • Panel President (Captain, O-6),
  • six panel members,
  • one alternate panel member.
Membership Duties Panel members will deliberate on nominations received for the following awards, which are administered by CG-131:
  • The Coast Guard Reserve nominee for the CW4 Michael J. Novosel Award,
  • Department of Defense Reserve Family Readiness Award,
  • The Reserve Outstanding Junior Officer Award,
  • The Rear Admiral Bennett “Bud” Sparks Award,
  • The Admiral Russell R. Waesche Award,
  • Coast Guard Foundation Enlisted Reserve Scholarships.
Panel Convening The panel shall meet, confer and deliberate as necessary to recommend appropriate awardee(s).
  • Convening may be conducted virtually, or in the Washington, DC area.
  • CG-131 funds travel for eligible board members.
Membership Selection Process The Director of Reserve (CG-13) will select and appoint the panel members.
  • To minimize travel costs, priority may be given to applicants located in the greater Washington, DC area.
Application Process Applications are due by deadline stated on solicitation.
Applications are submitted via Coast Guard Memorandum to include:
  • personal interest in panel membership,
  • relevant experience,
  • reasons for applying,
  • command endorsement.
