DOE Announces FY 2012 Scholarship & Fellowship Recipients

Through the Integrated University Program, The Department of Energy is awarding $5 million for 39 undergraduate scholarships and 31 graduate fellowships to students in nuclear energy-related engineering and science programs at universities across the country. Through this program, undergraduates will receive a $5,000 scholarship, while fellowship winners will receive $50,000 annually over the next three years. The graduate fellowships will also include $5,000 towards a summer internship at a National Laboratory to support U.S. students’ involvement in the Department’s applied research programs. The selected students will study a breadth of critical nuclear energy issues, from fuel cycle sustainability to reactor efficiency and design.

Fellowships

There are no open solicitations at this time.

Fellowships are $50,000 a year over three years to help pay for graduate studies and research.

To be considered for a fellowship, you must be: 

You must submit:

  • A personal career statement explaining why you are interested in pursuing a career in nuclear science and engineering
  • A statement describing your previous research experience
  • An essay describing the research you are interested in conducting during your fellowship
  • Three reference letters
  • Copies of undergraduate and any graduate college transcripts
  • GRE general and subject test scores. NEUP’s designated institution code is 4470 (the GRE is strongly encouraged but not required if your graduate program did not require it).

Optional:

  • A program eligibility essay describing how your program of study fits with the U.S. Department of Energy Office.

Fellowship Documents

These documents are available to aid current fellowship recipients in meeting NEUP reporting requirements.

Annual Reporting Form- Annual reporting must take place within 30 days of the conclusion of the academic year.

Travel Request Form- NEUP allows for one research related travel allowance per year that must be approved by NEUP 3 to 4 months before the travel takes place.
