Throughout 2011, the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) has received overwhelming interest in career opportunities with the Commissioned Corps. We are currently working with over 1,200 applicants. The applicants have been grouped as Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 and are in various stages of the application process. Additionally, the Division of Commissioned Corps Personnel and Readiness (DCCPR) Director is implementing application process changes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the process with an emphasis on improved customer service for applicants and the Agencies we serve.

To manage the current volume of applications amidst organizational and process changes, beginning January 1, 2012—and until further notice—we will focus our efforts on professions (e.g. physicians and dentists), groups and positions of identified need.
