As the world population continues to grow, there is a greater need than ever to adopt clean, efficient technologies and solutions to ensure we can meet all of our needs and still have the clean air and water and other natural resources we need to live healthy lives.  To address these challenges, the Obama Administration is challenging you, the youth of America, to tell the world what you are doing in your own communities to foster sustainability and help create an America – and a world – built to last. This June, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, or Rio+20, will provide an important opportunity for a global conversation about sustainability and economic growth. This is a critical time to highlight the fundamental link between economic, social, and environmental progress. We are asking you to share your actions, mobilize others, and demonstrate how we can all have local and global impacts.

What is sustainability?   While there is no single definition, in general sustainability means promoting health and quality of life for current and future generations.  This includes growing a strong economy with good jobs; ensuring clean air and water, and healthy natural resources; promoting vibrant communities that support health and education; and developing clean sources of energy.  Whether you are focused on social, economic, education, health, or environmental issues, and especially if you are looking at how they are all connected, we invite you to accept our challenge and tell us what you are doing to build a sustainable future!

Submit a video and tell us what you are doing.  Your video should be thirty seconds to three minutes long and describe or demonstrate your action, commitment, or accomplishment as an individual or group to make your home, school or community more sustainable, or promote sustainability in general.

Winners will be invited to the White House for a special event this summer focused on sustainability leadership. Selected video entries will be featured at the U.S. Center at the Rio+20 Conference in Rio de Janeiro this June.

We invite youth and young adults 13 to 25 years old to create a thirty second to three minute long video about what you are doing to promote sustainability. Your video may focus on one – or ideally all – aspects of sustainability: economic development, environmental protection, and social development. Upload it here for a chance to win!

Video Requirements (in brief - please read the Official Rules for complete requirements)

Videos should:
• Be informative, memorable, and creative;
• Describe or demonstrate your action, commitment, or accomplishment as an individual or group to make your home, school or community more sustainable, or promote sustainability in general;
• Have a unique title;
• Be 30 seconds to 3 minutes long;
• Be original content created for this contest;
• Be submitted through YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov;
• Be high resolution;
• Have any privacy settings for the video on YouTube.com or Vimeo.com turned off.  

Videos should not (or they will not be considered):
• Display the White House, Council on Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency, or any other Federal agency’s logo;
• Focus on advocacy or political statements;
• Have visual or verbal mention of any websites other than the White House’s Youth Sustainability Challenge website (www.whitehouse.gov/sustainability-challenge);
• Use any inappropriate language or images;
• Contain profane language, violence or weapons, sexually explicit content, or personal attacks on people;
• Contain material that is obscene, offensive, or slanderous;
• Contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age;
• Infringe the copyrighted work of others; or
• Include endorsements of private products, services, or enterprises.

Steps to Enter
1. Create an account on YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov or log in with an existing ChallengePost account. Creating an account is free.
2. On YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov, click “Accept this challenge” to register your interest in participating. This step ensures that you will receive important challenge updates.
3. After you sign up on YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provided. Use the confirmation email to verify your email address. As a registered contestant, you will then be able to enter a Submission.
4. Create a video that is between thirty seconds and three minutes long, and describes or demonstrates your action, commitment, or accomplishment as an individual or group to make your life or your community more sustainable.  Please read all contest requirements before creating the video, as any video that does not comply with all requirements will not be considered.
5. Enter your contest submission on YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov. As part of a complete submission you must provide:
• A Contest Submission Form
• A link to the video on YouTube.com or Vimeo.com;
• Video Image Release Forms from all individuals who appear in the video from the subject, or in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian; and
• Video Copyright Permission Form from you, the creator of the video.
6. Share your video with friends using the social media tools on YouthSustainability.Challenge.gov and the Twitter hashtag #EarthDayEveryDay, and let them know they can vote for your video during the public voting period!
