Membrane Separations Research Program

ORNL Membrane Separations Research Program is focused on innovative research in several industrially important areas with the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of energy intensive processes. Our primary focus is to develop novel high selectivity membranes, to better understand the key membrane and system parameters impacting separation performance at the nano-scale and to develop novel methodologies to optimize flux and selectivity. We have one of the most advanced facilities and a team of highly skilled and experienced staff in membrane research and development, utilizing a wid variety of inorganic and polymer membranes. Our world-class facilities include rapid prototyping equipment and high precision characterization tools. We are currently working on a number of sponsored projects that can potentially address critical needs in several industrial, environmental and national security applications. Some of the on-going and recently completed research projects are listed below along with a brief description of our research focus.
