Peace Corps Unveils Online Application

New process helps soon-to-be grads receive Peace Corps placement by graduation day 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 5, 2012 – Peace Corps is unveiling its new online application system just in time for college seniors to get prepped, packed and ready to serve as soon as they graduate in the spring or summer of 2013.

The new online system makes the application process easier, increases access to status information and allows college seniors to receive an invitation to serve before graduation. It will also allow users to add information to the application in stages and track their progress through each stage of the process.

In the 21st century, not only does the Peace Corps continue to be the gold standard for American volunteer service, but Peace Corps volunteers also return to the United States after 27 months of service prepared with strong organizational, managerial and language skills. With an emphasis in issue areas as diverse as education, agriculture and health, returned volunteers are global citizens with significant international and leadership experience. These benefits are more than enough to make college seniors – not to mention prospective employers – take a good look at the Peace Corps.

The Peace Corps is seeking dedicated people to fill thousands of positions around the world. Peace Corps pays for travel to and from the United States, provides a monthly stipend, offers healthcare benefits and provides money to transition back to life in the States when service is completed. Many universities also partner with Peace Corps to offer graduate school benefits to volunteers. To see a full list of benefits, visit: www.peacecorps.gov/benefits.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to submit an online application by September 30 to be considered for an assignment departing during spring and summer 2013. The application process typically takes between nine and 12 months from start to placement abroad.
