HIV prevalence and percentage diagnosed are estimated from cumulative HIV incidence using an extended back-calculation model (using both HIV and AIDS data, the time of first diagnosis with HIV, and disease severity at diagnosis) and estimated cumulative deaths.
Numerator: The number of those persons who are aware of their infection status. Estimates are based on diagnoses of HIV and AIDS from surveillance data.
Denominator: The number of persons infected with HIV.
